The main effects of cassia extract
1. Antibacterial effect: The Cassia seed extract (alcoholic extract) has inhibitory effects on Staphylococcus, diphtheria bacilli, typhoid bacilli, paratyphoid bacilli, and Escherichia coli, while the aqueous extract is ineffective.
2. Antifungal effect: Using the test tube dilution method, the aqueous extract showed inhibitory effects at a 1:20 dilution against *Microsporum audouinii* and at a 1:10 dilution against *Trichophyton schoenleinii* and *Microsporum gypseum*.
3. Hypotensive effect: Both the aqueous and ethanol extracts have hypotensive effects on anesthetized dogs, cats, and rabbits.
4. Lipid-lowering effect: Feeding rats with 6g/animal of Cassia seed decoction or powder for 8 weeks reduced plasma cholesterol and triglycerides, and decreased liver triglyceride content in experimentally induced hyperlipidemic rats.

Who should not consume cassia seeds?
1. Pregnant Women
Pregnant women, as a group with a special physiological state, are far more sensitive to medications and external stimuli than ordinary people. While cassia seed is known for its effects of clearing heat, improving vision, and promoting bowel movements, it has strong medicinal properties and contains certain pharmacologically active components. These components may trigger unknown reactions in pregnant women and negatively affect fetal growth and development.
2. Infants and Young Children
The active ingredients in cassia seed may exceed the metabolic capacity of infants and young children, leading to adverse reactions such as indigestion and diarrhea. Furthermore, the various bodily systems of infants and young children are not yet fully developed, and they lack sufficient resistance to potential side effects of medications.
3. Individuals with Allergies
Cassia seed, as a traditional Chinese medicine with abundant medicinal components, contains various active substances that may trigger allergic reactions. For individuals known to be allergic to cassia seed or its components, contact with cassia seed may cause allergic symptoms such as skin itching, redness, swelling, and difficulty breathing.
4. Other Special Populations
In addition to the three groups mentioned above with clear contraindications, some other special populations also need to be extra careful when using cassia seed extract.
For example, individuals with spleen and stomach deficiency and cold should avoid excessive consumption of cassia seed to avoid aggravating cold symptoms; patients with low blood pressure should regularly monitor their blood pressure when using cassia seed to help lower blood pressure, to avoid discomfort caused by excessively low blood pressure.
